Introduction:

Tree Frontiers were contacted by the client to support the development of proposals for a new dwelling at a site outside Stratford-upon-Avon. The general principle of development had already been established, but further input was required to guide the design team and ensure a successful outcome

Background:

Tree Frontiers were approached by Studio Spicer Architects, with whom we have worked on a number of projects. Previous plans had been refused permission, and they were seeking additional arboricultural advice regarding a new proposed layout.

The Opportunity:

We carried out a tree survey in which we identified three trees that would require removal in order to facilitate the proposed plans. We also highlighted one veteran tree within the site boundary and noted that the southeast portion of the site lay within Alveston Conservation Area, which would place additional constraints on any trees in this area. In addition to this the clients advised us that four of the trees had been made subject to a Tree Preservation Order.

By displaying this information on a detailed plan Arboricultural Implications Plan we were able to overlay this on the architects’ proposals. This enabled us to draw up a Tree Protection Plan and advise on suitable tree protection measures that would need to be adhered to in order to avoid any harm to either the veteran tree or any of the trees subject to a TPO, as well as to the other retained trees on site.

The Results:

Our report, together with our plans and a draft Arboricultural Method Statement, were submitted as part of the application to Stratford-on-Avon District Council, and permission was granted in March this year.
