Private Development in the Vale of White Horse

About This Project

Client:

Private client

Site:

Residential property

Introduction:

Tree Frontiers were asked to carry out an arboricultural survey to support a planning application for a private dwelling in the Vale of the White Horse district. Subsequent to this we provided the client with a report and associated plans with which to tailor their designs. We also submitted an Arboricultural Method Statement to guide the main works contractor in the process of tree protection during the construction phase of the project.

Background:

The project was brought to us by Oxford Architects, who worked alongside PLAN:design Landscape Architects and Edgars as the planning consultants.

The Opportunity:

The client’s vision was to convert an existing outbuilding into an annexe, which would involve adding a single storey extension and a rear two storey gable. Oxford Architects had drawn up a number of options for them to consider, and approached Tree Frontiers once the client had settled on their preferred option.

We carried out a detailed arboricultural survey which highlighted a single tree that would require removal in order for the proposed plans to proceed. In order to compensate for this, the landscaping team proposed a replacement planting schedule including 11 new specimen trees and a new orchard.

We also noted that all of the trees along the western boundary of the site would be at risk of harm to the rooting environment as a result of development activity, and drew up a Tree Removal and Protection Plan and accompanying Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) which provided specific details of the required tree protection methods. This document is designed to be shared with all the onsite contractors to ensure that everyone is clear on the extent, purpose and deployment of tree protection measures.

The Results:

Our report, plans and AMS were submitted to the LPA as part of the planning application. Permission was granted in March, with adherence to the Tree Removals and Protection Plan listed as one of the planning conditions.
