11 Dec National Tree Week: The Teams Top Picks
Last month was the annual ‘National Tree Week’ 22nd-30th November. The event marks the UK’s largest annual tree celebration and the start of the winter planting season, with the theme being “A Future Filled with Trees” to encourage planting and protection efforts.
The team have shared their top picks of trees that mean something to them:
Flis – “This tree grows by a reservoir in Wales where we often go as a family. You can see from its stance that it is constantly battling the elements! When we went back last summer it had been fenced off so we can no longer sit under it, but at least it is being preserved for future families to enjoy.”
Max – “This is a dead oak tree found in a valley – the valley has protected it from the wind thus allowing the tree to maintain its crown architecture despite being stone dead”.
Steve – “This is a field boundary oak on my local dog walk. I get to see this tree through every season and I particularly enjoy the spring where I can see an abundance of birds and bugs in and around the canopy.”
Nick – “Ash is a native tree under threat of near extinction from ash dieback and yet has an amazing tolerance of whatever nature or man chooses to throw at it. This tree, on the Welsh border, is testament to its ability survive.”
