For the last few years we have attended Chipping Norton School’s Human Library event and this year was no exception. Max attended the event, which enables Year 9 pupils to talk to local businesses and gain insights into the wealth of career options that are available to them.

Max reflected on the event and summarised how the morning went:
“The day started with coffee and pastries whilst the company representatives introduced themselves to one another – a wide variety of jobs and a friendly bunch, some of which had attended the Human Library day previously.

Then it was straight into the school hall where each company took a stall ready with clues on the table as to what we do (I took a DBH tape and a tree ident book to try and hint at the job).

The children got into their groups and rotated from stall to stall asking various questions about our roles. This includes questions such as; are there many jobs out there for what you do, what’s your favourite part of the job, what are some of the skills you need for your role etc?

The children were on the whole very engaged and some had quite sincere questions. One girl asked me about ash dieback totally unprompted which really took me by surprise!

The children asked some great questions and seemed genuinely happy to be there and getting information that could ultimately help to steer them into a career they weren’t aware even existed.

I think its a great project the school are carrying out by doing this and really helps the children gain some insight into what they might want to do or what their interests may be.”
