At Tree Frontiers, we’re passionate about arboriculture. We know that this is a niche industry that many people will not be aware of. We are also conscious that many of our Clients or people in related industries won’t know what arboricultural consultants do or what needs to be considered on projects.

This part of our website is dedicated in providing information that is beneficial for those utilising our services, or for any prospective arboriculturists that are looking at furthering a career in arboriculture.

We will continue to add regular updates to this page so be sure to check back for new posts.

How trees react to mechanical stress

Have you ever wondered how trees react to mechanical stress? We’ve created a video that shows the difference in branch formation through creation of either tension wood or compression wood.

Safely removing soil from tree roots

Have you wondered what happens once planning consent has been obtained and trees on the development site have been marked for retention and protection? In this video, we demonstrate how an airspade and VacEx were used to displace and remove soil from around the tree roots, allowing the contractor to install new cables around the existing roots with minimal harm.

Tree Condition Survey challenges

We’re often asked to undertake a duty of care survey. In this video, Nick talks through some considerations for providing impartial advice on a recent duty of care survey. We help landowners to understand tree stock on their property.

Tree Vitality Assessment

We conduct regular Arborcheck assessments on a number of trees so that we can monitor their long-term health and condition. The results inform any future tree risk management recommendations, as well as determine the scale of impact from the approved development works.

Aerial Tree Surveys & 3D Models

A brief video to explain how drones can be used to understand the importance of trees on development sites

Using drones for aerial surveys of land and land usages

A video that shows the potential for using drones to help understand the context of land and land usage, either for tree management, habitat management, or development. This helps ensure that works are carried out in accordance with consent and to monitor compliance with planning conditions.

Detailed Aerial Surveys

We create detailed aerial surveys for tree health monitoring, on development sites and feasibility assessments. The hi-res cameras of our drones have helped open new opportunities for landowners.

Ever seen a tree bleed?

This birch tree was pruned in early spring and what can be seen here is ‘bleeding’ from the pruning wound. This happens when sap starts to rise, delivering water and sugar to new leaf buds. Excessive bleeding can cause the tree to lose valuable sugars, which in turn can have a knock-on impact on leaf burst and long-term physiological condition of the tree.
