This weekend (16th-17th May) sees the return of th This weekend (16th-17th May) sees the return of the annual Arb Show at @westonbirtarb in Tetbury. The Arb Show is the UK’s longest running arboriculture focused trade show and has activities and attractions for not only professionals but the public too.

Come along and enjoy interactive industry talks or get the kids involved with tree climbing and knot tying activities. There’s something for everyone!

Steve will also be there on Friday, providing volunteer support for the AA staff. Why not find him for a quick chat about all things trees?

Earlier this month, Nick attended the @Arboricultu Earlier this month, Nick attended the @Arboricultural Association's annual symposium, which focused on Tree Architecture and Morphophysiology.

The aim of the symposium was to introduce UK audiences to these concepts, which have already been widely adopted in Europe and Canada. It encouraged a shift in how trees are perceived and managed. The discussions highlighted the need for a more standardized language within our industry, as this could lead to improved communication and understanding among arborists.

Flis recently took her family on holiday to Zimbabwe. In addition to looking for the usual wildlife, such as lions, zebras, and giraffes, she found herself captivated by the trees. These trees endure a harsh existence, often being stripped to near-bare stumps each year and having whole limbs torn off by elephants. Despite these challenges, some trees survive, including a remarkable 1,200-year-old Baobab tree.

In the news, the felling of the Enfield Oak caught our attention and was featured in our newsletter. You can read the full article on our website and subscribe to ensure you never miss the latest news! https://treefrontiers.com/latest-articles

We also want to re-share the UK Ward Canopy Cover Map. This map highlights tree canopy cover in urban areas and supports better management. It provides assessments at the town, city, and ward levels, identifying areas for planting and improved management.

Have you heard of the ‘Right Tree, Right Place’ principles?
As part of our recent arboricultural impact assessment for a planning application, we identified 11 trees or groups of trees that would require removal, should the development go ahead.

We also outlined three potential areas for replacement planting within the site, giving guidance using the ‘Right Tree, Right Place’ principles. This method helps to understand the impact of planting on a site, ensuring that key factors are considered. This includes benefits for biodiversity, climate and pest and disease resilience, as well as minimising future pressure for removal and providing long-term amenity value.

These are not always easy to achieve and often require input from a range of disciplines.

Our detailed assessment was submitted with the planning application to the local authority, and we’re awaiting the decision. You can read the full case study https://treefrontiers.com/portfolio_page/residential-development-in-gloucester/

If you are considering submitting a planning application and not sure whether you need arboricultural advice, call us.
